Picture of a Permit

The answer depends on several factors. Size and use being the primary ones. Every building jurisdiction in the country is different. We strongly recommend checking with your municipality to understand the specifics as there are different permits for different types of structures, especially if there is a kitchen and or bath involved. Because there are so many jurisdictions, Modern Shed simply cannot advise on each of them. We are happy to explain the typical process and how our sheds are built and answer your questions regarding our product.

We have built thousands of legal unpermitted sheds and there are many parts of the country where getting a permit can take as little as a couple of weeks. Generally, plumbing and cook surfaces or conditioned spaces can trigger a required permit. Our design consultants can explain some new trending options for toilets and sinks.

Modern Shed does take on permitted projects base on the location of the project and our bandwidth at the time.

It is important to understand that a lot of the effort around the permitting process rests on the homeowner. You are responsible for determining whether your project requires a permit.  Modern Shed does not ever advise on this.
