This 12 x 24, 288 square foot Modern Shed in Western Washington gives a customer their dream of both a workspace and guest room in the forest but only yards away from their home.

Kevin and his wife love where they live, but their home wasn’t providing exactly what they needed. Unfortunately, Kevin’s wife was being kept awake by his snoring, forcing Kevin to sleep on the pull-out couch in the room they had been using as an office. The decision was made to look for some alternative space for his office and turn his office into a bedroom so they could both sleep comfortably. A quick internet search turned them onto Modern Shed, and they felt that they had found an amazing solution - a separate building he could work in. While technically a separate space that helped Kevin feel “away” from where he slept, his commute was only a few dozen yards. The bedroom he had been using as his office did not have an ensuite so wasn’t ideal for the occasional guestroom either. They were hoping they could put some kind of bathroom in the “Shed” in the woods on their property.

After Kevin downloaded the Modern Shed catalog from the, Modern Shed’s design consultant Jeff Bergerson met online with Kevin to start the process. Design Consultants are Modern Shed’s secret sauce. They offer decades of experience in designing sheds to our customers and guide them through what can often be a daunting process. “Jeff listened to our vision intently and offered excellent suggestions and guided us personally to the design we ended up with.” Kevin said. He went on to explain, “We started with the legal, permissible size, staked out the footprint in the location we chose.” On subsequent meetings with Jeff, he said, “we found him to be extremely knowledgeable and he educated us on available options and made it painless to go through the process. He was a great experience. He was very accurate on his assessment of the budget. And my only advice to future customers, is as in any construction project, to put a contingency amount in your budget, because things always come up, based on the size of the project.”

When asked about the installation he said, “Dave, the installer, was fantastic. And the speed and quality were amazing.”

Since they wanted some sort of bathroom, and the typical bathroom and associated plumbing and hook-up to septic was cost prohibitive, they opted for an alternative toilet. They decided on a BioLet composting hybrid toilet. There will be more about this in the next article.

Overall, he said everyone who sees the Modern Shed agrees, it is “fantastic! and of super high quality.” Kevin loves his home office and guest space out in the trees of his beautiful property.
