OREGON CITY, OR - When Lianne and Dan were planning their move to the Portland area in 2020, they already knew that they were interested in some kind of modular space to supplement the great 2-bedroom home they were purchasing.A modern shed bedroom with a porch sitting area

"We looked at several different companies and designs online, and when we found Modern Shed, we knew it was the perfect fit," Lianne shares.

Their Modern Shed is 168 square feet (12’x14) with a deck and porch overhang. It has dark green lap siding with a cedar accent panel, as well as four windows: three stacked rectangles and a horizontal sliding window, and sliding doors.a modern shed bedroom with green and cedar siding

“Jeff (our Design Pro) was great to work with on the design process. He walked us through every step, and provided us with a lot of guidance with regard to window placement, in particular noting how many clients don’t realize how much light comes from the transom windows above and how much they value the wall space for large furniture and shelving,” Dan notes. “He really helped us maximize our budget too, which was so helpful.”

Once all the design elements were planned out, Lianne was also amazed by how quickly the Modern Shed installation went from delivery to fully assembled. “It was literally three days! The install team was so organized, and even though our backyard was harder to access, they figured it out so quickly,” Lianne says.

Dan agreed, adding, “I’m just so impressed with how efficient of a product and process Modern Shed has developed. The panelized floor system and roof system are such great designs, and the metal roof is a quality product. The installation team is also so organized!”

Once the Modern Shed was assembled, Dan took on the task of interior finishing himself, adding a white shiplap wall treatment, and building a butcher block counter with cabinets and small shelves. They also chose to install a freestanding closet from Ikea.A cozy shed interior with a green chair, desk, and closet space.

“We built the Modern Shed for our older daughter as a bedroom. Now that she’s in college when she’s away at school, it’s become more like a flexible studio space for us. Dan will take meetings in there, our younger daughter will practice her music in there, or just go hang out to read,” Lianne explains.

“We’ve also started using the Modern Shed as our ‘think space’,” Dan adds. “On Saturday mornings, we’ll grab a cup of coffee and go out there together to talk about the upcoming week or plan our next trip. It’s just a great space and an environment that allows us to shift our mindset a bit. It’s so zen out there!”

“It was one of my favorite experiences in a long time,” Dan reflects on the whole process.
