Modern Shed: A Little Building In Your Backyard Vs A Great Studio
“Why does this cost so much?” is something we hear regularly from prospective customers. We understand that Modern Sheds are not cheap and often represent a significant investment from our customers.
At the onset of designing the first Modern Shed, we discussed quality vs price trade-offs and how Modern Shed should position itself. We settled on the idea that we always wanted Modern Shed to feel like an extension of one’s home and as such would build it to that quality. While this has resulted in our sheds at times costing more than some competitors, we can look back at sheds that were built 20 years ago, and see they are still are in great condition.
There are several important factors that create a very valuable space, one of the many features not to be overlooked is how well insulated our sheds are. Often, other manufacturers save money by reducing or not including insulation. If you live in an environment where temperatures rise above 75F or below 50F a well-insulated accessory structure is important, whether used to store important items or as a home office. Modern Shed is the only company that provides insulation on all six sides (including the floor). Our sheds can be ordered with insulation to meet the most stringent energy codes in the country. (up to R60 in the roof, R27 in the walls and R30 in the floor)
If you find yourself saying, “We may not live in our current house forever; I am not sure that it makes sense to invest in a backyard studio.” That specifically could be a GOOD reason to invest in a Modern Shed. By putting yourself in a prospective buyer’s shoes one can see a well-built backyard studio is something unique that will stick in buyers’ heads. When we speak to real estate agents about our product most agree that they are worth significantly more in resale than the initial purchase price. This is also an area where quality matters; poorly built sheds that deteriorate quickly have a negative impact on a home, as buyers view them as an eyesore and a potential future cost. A Modern Shed that is built to the same (if not better) specifications than the main house will feel like a true extension of the home.
