Benjamin Moore’s 2018 Color of the Year is Caliente, a deep red that projects both power and playfulness, as well as a little bit of drama.

“Strong, radiant and full of energy, Caliente is total confidence,” said Ellen O’Neill, director of Strategic Design Intelligence at the national paint company. “The spirited personality of red turns heads, signaling surprise and adventure. The eye can’t help but follow its bold strokes.”

Red’s emergence showcases the change and vitality of cultural movements around the world, according to Benjamin Moore.

Modern-Shed uses Benjamin Moore paints exclusively and we’ve noticed how striking red colors stand out on our modern structures, whether the entire shed or the trim of a shed is given the red carpet treatment.

Or, perhaps you’d rather adorn your shed with red accents, like a chic business card holder or ergonomic chair for your Modern-Shed home office, or Maji Sports Jute Yoga Mat for your Modern-Shed meditation room or a velvet lumbar pillow for your Modern-Shed guest bedroom.

The Benjamin Moore Color & Design team annually forecasts color trends after a year of research in 30 cities across 12 countries, traveling nearly 100,000 miles.

The team of seven experts attended more than 20 industry shows capturing more than 42,200 photos that illustrate points of inspiration from the arts, design, architecture, pop culture, fashion, home furnishings and more, according to O’Neill.

Benjamin Moore also selected a curated palette of 23 similar or complementary colors, such as Cherry Wine, Cranberry Cocktail and Pleasant Pink, to round out this year’s color trends.

Meanwhile, the Pantone Color Institute announced that Ultra Violet is the 2018 Color of the Year.

“We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, ED of the Pantone Color Institute. “Ultra Violet … takes our awareness and potential to a higher level.”

The luxe shade has shown up in furniture, fashion and fitness, as well as on Modern-Sheds.

Elsewhere in the color world, orange, yellow and lavender have dominated the runways, while blue is on trend in the automotive industry.
