BAY AREA — When Marianne first took up creating stained-glass art projects, she worried about getting glass all over her home.

Marianne needed a small eave so that her Modern-Shed art studio would fit in her side yard.

She tried to work in a spare room and she tried to work on the garage patio. She mainly worked at a drop-in studio about 20 minutes from her home in the San Francisco Bay area.

Nothing was as convenient as her Modern-Shed art studio is now.

“It was getting harder and harder to find a place to work,” Marianne recalls. “I was worried about the dog standing in the glass (at home). I wanted to work closer to home. It’s nice to be able to just get out to the studio whenever I can spare time.”

Modern-Shed erected Marianne’s 8’ by 10’ art studio in her backyard near the end of last year.

Marianne had first heard of Modern-Shed while browsing through Dwell magazine, but when she first Googled the company, she found a competitor’s website.

Ultimately, a deal with the competitor fell through because the competitor could not build a smaller eave over the building.

“I decided against them because I have a pretty small area that I was trying to get the shed into,” Marianne says. “I have a small side yard, but the larger eave meant I’d have to have that much more space around the edge of the shed available.”

Marianne was pleased with the speed at which her Modern-Shed was erected and also happy with the built-in work bench that Modern-Shed’s construction team built inside the shed.

The 7-foot long shelf allows Marianne to store her longer, glass projects.

The Modern-Shed art studio provides a quiet and cozy environment for Marianne to work on her hobby — right now, she’s creating a stained-glass piece for the front door of her home.

“It’s nice to be able to just get out to the studio whenever I can spend the time,” she says. “With my drop-in studio, when you had to go, you had to go. Now I can spend an hour here and there whenever I want. If I have just a little bit of time I can just run in there.”
