Songwriters Haven: A Custom Space Where Creativity Can Thrive

Josie and her family live in a small bungalow style home in a highly desired neighborhood they love. Most of the homes in the neighborhood are on the small side and it would be very costly to sell and re-purchase a larger home in the same area. Since both her and her husband work from home now and plan to keep doing so, it became apparent they needed some more space!

Josie and her husband used Google and Instagram to search for workable solutions. They realized a backyard building was the fastest and least expensive way to go compared to an addition or hiring an architect and finding a contractor to stick frame something. They wanted to use a local company if possible and discovered Modern Shed in their own backyard (pun intended). Modern Shed’s fabrication facility is in the Puget Sound area and provides prefabricated, panelized small studio spaces.

When she downloaded the Modern Shed catalog from modern-shed.com, she was connected to her Design Consultant, Jeff Bergerson. When asked. “What was it like working with your Design Consultant?” She said, “Jeff was very responsive, answered all my questions and worked with me to find cost saving solutions.”

Since their home was a craftsman bungalow she wanted the structure to mimic it some way. Modern Shed’s latest model, The Peak, offers a gable roofline which fit the bill. Because Modern Shed offers custom choices, the siding on the shed could match the siding on her home. Jeff, as the designer, suggested and worked with Josie to select the appropriate windows and door based on her work, her yard, and the views of her garden. The family values their yard / lawn space, so kept the design of the building small at only 80 square feet. A single person office space worked just fine for her.

They kept the interior simple yet sophisticated with a Northwest touch. Modern Shed’s natural pine ceiling liner and exposed wood beams gives it the Northwest vibe, but white dove walls, cork flooring, and simplified modern furniture makes the room look and feel larger than it is.
